                                                               Walks, Hikes & Bikes

  • There is an entry point to the Archipelago trail near our house, which enables you                                                                              to hike in two different directions for as far as you want following hiking signs.
  • We can direct you to long and short hikes near the guest house as well. They are limitless.
  • For Biking OR Hiking, you can also refer to the MAPS we have posted on this website.
  • Bikes can be rented at the airport, at Pilebaekkens Cykler (and gas) ring +45 62 53 14 77, and across the island here.
  • A delightful walk starts close to the Netto food market. Cross the street where the main parking entry is, and walk straight ahead with Netto to your back. You'll pass small red fishermens' huts, the sailboat harbor and a delightful playground. Follow the path past all this and it will take you through a pleasant grassy seaside to the beach and huts. The road here can be followed to the right for a longer walk. You can also find picnic tables and a toilet facilities in this area.
  • And of course you can walk down to Aeroeksoebing and around the delightful village of old homes and businesses, grab an ice cream and work it off by walking back to Den Charmerende Villa!

Water Activities

  • Sailing tours on wooden ships are available through the Maritimt Center Denmark.  For 2011, during peak season, there are trips leaving Ærø on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, twice a day. Adult price is 90 Danish Kroner, and parties of 5 or more get a discounted price. The ships sail around the island, and to ocal smaller islands. Price to bring a bicycle is 30 kr. per.
  • Sea kayak training is available from a group in Marstal - price quoted for one day course is 3 hours of lessons and rental of the kayak equipment for 600 Danish kroner. They also offer weekend courses. Website is in Danish only.
  • The sea near the rental is about 500 m. down a dirt road, shallow and an EXCELLENT location for starting out in your own kayaks, or other water vehicles.
  • Enjoy the west-facing beach in Aeroeskoebing, which can be reached as mentioned above (from Netto), by bus or by                          car. People swim here, sail in the area, and some windsurf as well.
  • Travel to another small island, Birkholm, can be arranged by contacting the Birkholm post - at +45 21 24 78 56
  • Visit the old sail ship Fylla when it is resting in Aeroeskoebing harbor.

Sports and Games

  • A fun playground sits beside the sailboat harbor in Aeroeskoebing, along with picnic tables.
  • There is a delightful little pond, with ducks and their duckhouses, surrounded by a green in Aeroeskoebing by the ferry harbor.
  • Miniature Golf can be played near the sailboat harbor in Aeroeskoebing.
  • Horseback riding can be arranged locally at the Aeroe Ridecenter, located close to the village in Aeroeskoebing. Telephone number +45 40 45 59 70. You can also inquire in Marstal, Bregninge and Voderup about additional opportunities. Check the Aeroe Guide, page 25 for more information.
  • A fully equipped Fitness Center in Aeroeskoebing is available for a day price by contacting the Bowling Center, below.
  • Bowling is available at the Bowling Center near Aeroeskoebing village. Ring +45 62 52 23 06 to reserve lanes.

Other Fun Stuff to Do!

  • Take family and friends on a sky-high tour over the island in a plane flown by Starling Air down the road! Or go further and get flown to Legoland for the day, and back!
  • Enjoy the museums in Aeroeskoebing - Hammerichs' Hus is a favorite of ours, but Aeroe Museum is right across the street and has numerous exhibits, and a friendly staffer, with much information about the island's interesting history. Bottle Peter's as another worthwhile jaunt, right around the corner. You can also take the bus to Soebygaard, where renovation has been taking place for years - and much has been achieved with respect to an old manor house, owned by a Duchy many years ago, including farm buildins and activities, such as the "Kiss a Frog" children's center.   • Visit the Marstal Søfartsmuseum, reachable by bicycle (see Map 2) and by bus from the stop near Den Charmerende Villa. Nearby is a ship restuaration on "The Schooner - Bonavista" availabel for walk-in visits at no cost.
  • Aeroeskoebing is also home to a cozy movie theatre with a single film that changes from week to week. Tickets                                 must be reserved - ask for more information when you visit and we'll help you make arrangements.
  • Shopping in the local Aeroeskoebing village stores, the antik store, visiting churches and many other activities that are scheduled on the square throughout the summer!

 

Restaurants and Eateries

(Note that "P" is used to signify only open during prime season)

  • Restaurant Mumms,  on Søndergade, near the square in Aeroeskoebing village  - a friendly fine dining experience with Danish ambiance and a Wisteria-covered garden for outdoor eating
  • Cafe Aroma "P", with outdoor dining, situated on Vestergade near the Ferry harbor in Aeroeskoebing and serving healthy meals, light meals, beer and ice cream
  • Det Lille Hotel, on Smedegade in Aeroeskoebing village, fine dining, outdoor seating area near the sea, full and light meals, beer and wine
  • Kiosk by the ferry in Aeroeskoebing - with "Pølse" (hot dogs), hamburgers, fries, ice cream, sodas
  • Addis Restaurant "P" on Vestergade in Aeroeskoebing, fine dining thoughout the summer season
  • Cafe Draesinen, "P" Vestergade a fun place to have lunch and even more fun in the evening when Danish folk music is played by the infamous (in Denmark) Draesine band and friends throughout the summer
  • Dunkaer Kro, Dunkaervej 1, Dunkaer, Aeroeskoebing - about 1-2 km. bike ride from Den Charmerende Villa, a true Kro in authentic Danish style - think of it as a place to stop in for a beer and the daily meal,  you may even hear a dialect spoken
  • The Burger Bar in Aeroeskoebing -  "P", hamburgers, hot dogs, sodas and lots of ice cream.

  • Ærøskøbing Røgeri "P" sells delicious smoked fish and meals with in and outdoor seating near the harbor - east of the ferry.

 

 

 

   

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are many other things to do and places to see, and eat!!! These are just the ones that came to mind as being closest to Den Charmerende Villa.
